Are Online Sweepstakes Legal in Your State?

Overview of US state restrictions (including NY, FL, RI registration triggers), age rules, and how Gaviom addresses void-where-prohibited requirements.

Internet sweepstakes can be offered nationally, but state laws still matter. Operators must filter eligibility, register high-value promotions in certain states, and publish "void where prohibited" language truthfully.

Common state-level requirements

  • Age 18+ (or higher where state law requires, e.g., Alabama and Nebraska for some promotions)
  • Registration in New York, Florida, and Rhode Island when ARV exceeds thresholds
  • Bonding for very large prize values in some jurisdictions
  • Excluded groups: employees, agencies, and household members per Official Rules

What players should check before entering

Read the eligibility section of the Official Rules for residency limits and deadlines. Gaviom lists eligible US states and void jurisdictions on each prize page and in checkout.

If you enter by mail, use a US return address capable of receiving prize documents. Our AMOE guide explains required fields.

International visitors

Unless a promotion explicitly opens eligibility to non-US residents, assume US residency is required. Prize values on Gaviom are stated in US dollars (USD) unless the Official Rules say otherwise.
